Hi everyone! I have my purchases from the May Polish Pickup release to share with you today! This was one of my favorite months ever. Keep reading to see why!
First, my usual run down of what the Polish Pickup is and how to join in.
The Polish Pickup is an interactive Facebook group that allows members to submit and vote on themed monthly ideas and purchases from an array of indie polish brands at a one stop shop. The shopping window is open on the first Friday of every month and closes on the following Monday. Once that window closes, shipping takes approximately two to three weeks. All products are purchased on a pre-order basis, which means most items will not be mixed until after the sale window closes.
May’s theme was themed to the 90’s – such a fun collection to choose from! I picked up 5 polishes from this release.
Contrary Polish – Crimson Glow
Contrary Polish’s contribution to the 90’s theme was inspired by the television show, “My So Called Life”. This polish has a deep red jelly base with multi-chrome shimmer and holo pigment. My bottle didn’t shift as strongly as was portrayed in the promotional images but it’s still a gorgeous polish. It was my first from Contrary and I love it for Fall!
Shown is two coats and top coat. It reminds me of a poison apple in the most delightful way.
Dreamland Lacquer – Mrs. Mia Wallace
Dreamland Lacquer’s contribution was inspired by Uma Thurman’s character in “Pulp Fiction” and that gorgeous color she wears in the film! It is a blackened maroon jelly base loaded with holographic microglitter. This was almost a one coater! I recommend using a peel off base coat with this one if you find removing glitters to be difficult. It will require a bit of scrubbing to remove but it’s not difficult to get off.
Shown is two coats and top coat.
Fair Maiden Polish – You Got It Dude!
My favorite of the bunch! Fair Maiden Polish’s inspiration behind this one was “TGIF”, ABC’s comedy lineup on Friday Nights! This specific line comes from the television show, “Full House”. It is a neon red base with a soft blue shimmer and chrome shifting flakes. I can’t say enough good things about this one and it is now my all time favorite FMP!
Shown is two coats and top coat. I will definitely be wearing this throughout the summer!
Illyrian Polish – Mixed Emotions
Illyrian Polish’s inspiration behind this beauty were mood changing rings! I used to love wearing these as a child and still keep an eye out for them. You can still find mood rings in a lot of touristy gift shops when you travel! This was a close second as my favorite polish from this release. It is an indigo jelly base with multi-chrome pigment, holographic glitters, and multi-chrome shifting iridescent flakes. One of the most beautiful polishes I own.
Shown is two coats and top coat. All I have for notes on this one is “WOW”.
Vapid Lacquer – Anything For Selenas
If you can guess by the name, this thermal was inspired by the Queen of Tejano music herself, Selena Quintanilla Perez and the infamous jumpsuit she wore during her final live performance before her passing. This beauty perfectly represents her style and shifts between a deep plum purple when cold and a rich magenta when warm. My hands usually run cold so I couldn’t quite capture the shift but I will include a link to the featured blogger for May, Nichole from Bedlam Beauty, who captured it perfectly: https://www.bedlambeauty.com/2018/05/polish-pickup-part-two-may-2018-1990s.html#more
Shown is three thin coats and top coat. You may be able to get away with two coats depending on your nail length and how bright your nail tips are.
I only purchased one polish from June’s release so I will be including that in a haul with that brand and I may be skipping July’s posts as Polish Pickup is releasing past polishes on the individual seller’s websites.
I will be back with a dedicated Polish Pickup post for August’s release as the theme is one of the great joys of my life – musicals! I couldn’t be more giddy to see which shows each maker chooses and what they create to represent it. Your girl is going to be broke after that sale! 😉
